Vickie Diane Villines

Ms. Vickie Diane Villines, 70, a native of Person County, peacefully passed away at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina on Saturday September 16, 2023.  She was born August 6, 1953, in Person County, North Carolina to the late Major Nathaniel and Vergia Allene Currie Villines.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers:  Vernon Nathaniel and Major Vernard Villines.

Vickie attended public school in Person County. She graduated from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. She  also completed a Masters of Arts Program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. At an early age, she joined Union Grove Baptist Church and later became a member of the choir.

She worked as Program Director for the Public Broadcasting System in Chapel Hill, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Texas, and Florida.  She retired from Fayetteville Technical Community College in 2020. With a kind word and a smile, even in her waning days, her positive attitude had a profound effect on everyone she came into contact.  During this last week, she constantly told all that she met, "I'm ok, I just want you to be okay" or she was singing Walking on Sunshine.

Leaving to cherish her memories are three sisters,  Dr. Valerie Villines of Pinehurst, NC;  Mrs. Vanessa Villines-James (Reginold) of Aldie, Virgina; and Ms. Vonda Villines of Sterling, Virginia. Her nephew, Reginold ‘RJ’ James II of Alexandria, Virginia and her niece Alexis James of Triangle, Virginia. Also, two cousins that she cherished and viewed as sisters, Mrs. Courtney Morton Cooks (Randall) and Ms. Lauren Morton. She also leaves her closest friends, Dee Dee McCall (Joe) of Lithonia, Georgia, as well as, a host of cousins and friends.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 11:00am at the Union Grove Baptist Church Hurdle Mills, NC. Rev. Rufus Johnson, Sr., Pastor of Union Grove will provide Words of Comfort.
