On Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Duke Home Care and Hospice of Durham, NC (Hock Family Pavilion), Thomas Daye, Jr. transitioned to be with the Lord. Thomas was born June 7, 1964 to Mable Palmer and the late Ollie Joe Daye, Jr.
Thomas was known by his family and friends as “Cricket”. He was a member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church and a member of the Male Chorus. He attended Durham County Schools. Cricket enjoyed painting, fishing and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ollie Joe Daye, Jr., a sister, Gloria Daye, a son, Desmond Mason and stepson, Tybray Featherstone.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Francine Daye of the home, three daughters, LaKeisha McCandise, Shytina Chapman, and Ada Harvey; a son, Derrick Downey; two stepdaughters, Janetta Featherstone and Franterra Featherstone. His mother, Mable Palmer (Andrew), stepmother, Blanche Daye; siblings, Arlene Coleman (Curtis), Deborah Royster, Burnice Daye (Sakeitha), Charlie Daye all of Roxboro, NC, Prentice Daye (Lalita) of Bullock, NC, and Lamonte Daye (Angie) of Durham, NC. Stepbrothers, Tim Meadows (Tracey) of Butner, NC and Joe Bobbitt of Burlington, NC. Aunts and Uncles: Patricia Paylor (Bruce), Shirley Jones (Curtis), Vaxcine Clayton (Harold), Jerry Williams (Angela Faye), James Williams (Diane), Rev. George Wallace Daye (Vivian), Jeffrey Williams (Mary), Napoleon McGhee, and Donnell Williams (Mary). Twenty-four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Deborah Royster at 36 Dylan St. Apt. C Roxboro, NC 27573.
The funeral service will be Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 2:00pm at Jones Chapel Baptist Church 708 Barnette Tingen Rd. Roxboro, NC 27574. Service eulogist and officiant will be Rev. Ronald Booker, Pastor of Jones Chapel Baptist Church.
