Shirley Bumphus Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Ann Wallace Bumphus, age 87, departed this life on Thursday, May 28, 2026 in Detroit, Michigan. She was born April 24, 1939 to the late Emmanuel and Goldie Cates Wallace.

She was a graduate of Person County High School class of 1958.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bumphus; four brothers, Andrew, Ed, Emmanuel and Samuel Wallace and two sisters, Annie Mae Edward and Mable Torain.

She lives to cherish her memory:  three children, Sylvia Passmore, Angela Bumphus, and Frank Bumphus, Jr. all of Detroit, MI.; three sisters, Eugenia Walton (James) of Roxboro, NC, Winnie Bumphus of Durham, NC and Goldie Wallace of Newberry, SC; three sister-in-laws, Virginia Wallace and Joann Wallace of Roxboro, NC and Eugenia Wallace of SC; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

The local family will receive friends at 3444 Virgilina Rd. Roxboro, NC

Public viewing will be on June 12, 2026 from 2:00pm – 8:00pm at the C.W. Morris-J.W. Henry Funeral Home, Inc., 12700 Hamilton Ave., Highland Park, MI 48203. 

Funeral will be held on June 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM with a family hour from 10:00am – 11:00am at the Wayside/Greater Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church, 4860 Rohns Street, Detroit, MI 48214.
