Ms. Sherry Bradsher-Whitt, age seventy-three, departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at her home in Harrisburg, North Carolina. She was born in Person County to the late Benjamin and Lena Rivers Bradsher.
Sherry resided in Person County for most of her life before her health declined, at which time she moved to Harrisburg, North Carolina, to live with her daughter and family. She spent many years employed at North End Elementary School before retiring. Her love for children was evident, as she continued to serve as a substitute teacher. She enjoyed sharing lunches with fellow retirees and spending quality time over dinner with family and friends.
She was more than just a mother to her own children; she became a mother figure to their friends and younger members of her family. Many will remember her as the one who always made room in the car, gladly driving children to games, dance classes, skating, and wherever else they needed or wanted to go. She opened her home just as freely, welcoming them in for days at a time until it became a second home to them.
After relocating to Harrisburg, Sherry found joy in playing games on her phone, watching The View, and staying connected with loved ones through Facebook. She found great happiness in talking about her Sundays with Koby and in sharing proud, and often humorous, stories about Daisha, Kendall, and Braylon. She remained faithful in her devotion, never missing Sunday service virtually at Union Grove Baptist Church, where she had been a lifelong member. She also found great joy in gospel music, which was a constant source of comfort and inspiration.
Sherry loved her family dearly, not only her immediate family, but her extended family as well. She was often heard saying, “You know we are related,” delighting in discovering connections. To know her as a friend was to be welcomed as family.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughter, LaToya Broadie (Brian) of Harrisburg, North Carolina; her son, Garcia Whitt of Roxboro, North Carolina; her brother, Benjamin “Buster” Bradsher, Jr. (Linda) of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Daisha Whitt of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kendall and Braylon Broadie of Harrisburg, North Carolina, and Koby Whitt of Missouri City, Texas; nephews Lee Bradsher (Tish) and Wendell Bradsher of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina; niece Malorie Howard Rice (James) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and nephew D.L. Howard (Georquesha) of Greenville, North Carolina; along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday, April 23rd from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel, 209 Chub Lake Street, Roxboro, NC 27573.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 24th at 11:30 a.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church, 3081 Union Grove Church Road, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541. Rev. Rufus L. Johnson, Sr. will serve as the eulogist. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
