Mr. Rudolph Lynwood Hutchins, 95 of Danville, Va., born to the union of the late James and Alfrezia Hutchins on April 28, 1927, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Rudolph attended Danville Public Schools and graduated from John M. Langston High School. He then enlisted in the US Army, where he toured in the Pacific. After an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he attended St Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Va., studying masonry and electrical trades. Following graduation from St. Paul’s, he quickly worked his way to foreman level on construction sites in the Triad region of North Carolina and then return to Danville to start up R.H. Masonry Enterprises. R.H. Masonry Enterprises was often noted as one of if not the best bricklaying companies in the city with a specialty in fireplaces, arches, grills, foundations and deck construction and repairs. While concurrently running the masonry company, Rudolph accepted a maintenance position at Dan River Mills where he worked until retirement.

He enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and baking his famous banana pudding and sweet potato pies. Rudolph stayed abreast of the latest trends and technology using social media and texting on his cell phone daily until his passing. He enjoyed visits from family and especially his granddaughters or the girls as he lovingly referred to them. Rudolph was a member of the American Legion Post 29, where he was a continuous member for over 60 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tony and brothers:  Morris, Dewey, Frank, Jimmie, Bobby and Lawrence.

He is survived by his children:  Carolyn of Harrisburg, PA., Lynwood of Danville, Va., Preston of Columbus, OH, Diane of Phoenix, AZ, Rudie (Charlene) of Rocky Mount Va., Levern of Danville, Va., Consuela (Greg) of Durham, NC and Marcus (Shannon) of Danville, Va.  Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother, Ralph Hutchins of Richmond Va., and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Piney Forest Health and Rehab Center. Memorials or donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
