Deacon Robert Lee Smith, a beloved husband, age 83, a native of Roxboro, was born to the union of the late Early Bud Smith and Eliza Bolton Smith, he peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
Deacon Smith was an active member of Saint James Baptist Church in Leasburg, North Carolina until his declining health. He was a Masonic member of Allens Lodge #676 of Prospect Hill, North Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Dorothy F. Smith of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Bigelow (Woodrow) of Yanceyville, NC; Karen Scoggins (Elder Terry) of Roxboro, NC; Minister Lisa Smith of Durham, NC; four sons, Rogers Smith of Eden, NC; Dennis Smith (Phyllis) of Roxboro, NC; DeCarlo Smith (Keisha) of Henderson, NC; and Nicholas Paylor of Jamestown, NC. Fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Public Viewing will be at Alan L. Mortuary, 209 Chub Lake Street, Roxboro, North Carolina on Saturday, May 4 from 10 am to 1 pm.
Moments of Reflections and Masonic Rites will be held at Saint James Baptist Church, 1065 Solomon Lea Road, Leasburg, North Carolina on Saturday, May 4 from 4 pm to 7 pm.
Funeral services will be held at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, 305 Walker Street, Roxboro, North Carolina on Sunday, May 5 at 4 pm. The body will lie in state an hour prior to service. Family will be present at 3:30pm.
Interment will be Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11am at Saint James Baptist Church 1065 Solomon Lea Rd. Leasburg, NC 27291.
The family is receiving visitors at Deacon Smith’s home at 52 Old Durham Road, Leasburg, NC during the hours of 2 pm to 8 pm Thursday, May 2nd through Friday, May 3rd.
