Mr. Mose Winbush, Jr., affectionately known as “Butch,” age 79, was the oldest son of the late Ernestine Royster Winbush and Mose Winbush, Sr. He was born on August 17, 1946, in Roxboro, North Carolina. Mose peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Hock Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina.
Mose was a member of Quinn’s Chapel AME Church in Roxboro, North Carolina. He attended Person County High School, where he graduated in 1964. Following graduation, he moved to New York before later returning to Roxboro. Mose served in the United States Army from 1966-1968. On August 16, 1986, he united in holy matrimony with Kay Jordan.
Mose had a lifelong passion for working with cars. He was employed at Performance Chevrolet in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he worked faithfully until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda W. Goins; brother-in-law, Dwayne Goins; sister-in-law, Valerie L. Winbush; a very special nephew, Zacharius Keith Winbush; and his half-brother, Larry Blackwell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Kay Winbush of the home; stepmother, Perryrene Winbush of Durham, North Carolina; a very special niece, Kei ’Osha Winbush, affectionately known as “His Dumpling”; brothers, Zacharius Winbush (Dorothy), George Winbush (Bertha), and Kester Winbush, all of Roxboro, North Carolina; Keith Winbush (Tonya) of Creedmoor, North Carolina; and Tony Richmond of Milton, North Carolina; sisters, Margaret W. Hicks (James), Cecelia W. Pierce (Jackie), Arnetta W. Carver (Ronnie), Linda Williams (Perry), Ardelia W. Brown (Michael), and Elsie W. Dickens, all of Roxboro, North Carolina; Jackie W. Hester of Mebane, North Carolina; and Alberta Winbush of Augusta, Georgia; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
Public walkthrough on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel, 209 Chub Lake Street, Roxboro, NC 27573
Funeral Service will be Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Quinn’s Chapel AME Church, 824 Durham Rd. Roxboro, NC 27573. Burial will follow at Peace Memorial
Gardens with Military Honors.
