Michael Thomas Mason, age 59, departed this life and entered into eternal rest on August 5, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was born in Person County, North Carolina, on April 8, 1966, and was a graduate of Person Senior High School, Class of 1985.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Mason; his brother, Gregory Tyrone Mason; and his stepfather, Napoleon Ragland, Sr.
A quiet man with a beautiful smile, Michael loved his family and friends. He was baptized at an early age at New Bethel Baptist Church in Alton, Virginia. He devoted much of his life to his work as an automotive technician, a trade he practiced with great skill and pride for many years in both Roxboro, North Carolina, and Boston, Massachusetts.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Clara Mason Ragland of Oxford, North Carolina, and his partner, Susan Burke of North Attleboro, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his siblings, Denise Mason and Desmond Mason (Katrina), all of Roxboro. His nieces, Tenita, Lawanda, Aniya, and Aurdriana; nephews, Desmond Jr., Brixton, Karon, and Dylan Mason, will remember him with love.
Michael’s extended family includes his stepsiblings, Halbert Ragland, Clifton Ragland (Regina), Toney Ragland, and Labrizza Crudup (James). He is also survived by two uncles, Samuel Lee of Roxboro and Bernard Mason (Sylvia) of Cary, North Carolina; a special goddaughter, Dawn Williams of Roxboro; and a grand-godson, Jessie Newman of Roxboro. His best friend, Jeff Williams (Mary) of Roxboro, and his sister-in-law, Brenda M. Mason of Roxboro.
A host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends will remember Michael for his gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for those around him.
A memorial service will be held at Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 12 PM, with Pastor Michael Martin of St. Matthew’s Baptist Church of Oxford, North Carolina, delivering the eulogy.
At other times, the family will receive visitors at the home of his mother, located at 100 Garden Park, Oxford, North Carolina.
