Marian Diane Covington

Ms. Marian “Tena” Diane Covington, age 70, daughter of the late Mr. Willie Covington and Mrs. Hester Bannister Covington, was born on October 23, 1955, in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida. She entered eternal rest on Friday, April 10, 2026, at UNC Memorial Hospital Hospice in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Marian received her early education in the Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida school system. After relocating to Newark, New Jersey, she graduated from Weequahic High School in Essex County. She relocated to Person County in 1998 from Orange, New Jersey, and later moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her career spanned 30 years as a Customer Service Representative for various insurance companies, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Humana.

In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by two brothers, Abie Danny Johnson, Jr. and Willie Nathaniel Covington, Jr.; and one nephew, William Nathaniel Cyril Covington.

She is survived by one sister and one brother leaving them with cherished memories, Marilyn Oliphant of Roxboro, North Carolina, and Melvin Witherspoon of Erie, Pennsylvania; four nephews and two nieces whom she thought of fondly, John Brice Oliphant, III and Brayln Davis, both of Roxboro, North Carolina, and Robert Witherspoon (Marisol) and Graham Witherspoon (Cara), both of Erie, Pennsylvania; and Tracey Witherspoon of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Kimberly Covington-Collier of Deale, Maryland; along with a host of other loving family members and friends.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel, 209 Chub Lake Street, Roxboro, NC 27573.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel, 209 Chub Lake Street, Roxboro, NC 27573, with Rev. Dr. Alfred Faulkner serving as eulogist. Burial will follow at Elijah Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 11469 Virgilina Road, Roxboro, NC 27574.
