Mr. John D. Allen, age 72, aka Sunshine, John D. Rockefeller, the last of the Mohicans, was the son of the late Pearl Allen Burton and Wright Allen, born on August 28, 1951 in Durham, NC. He was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at his residence in Washington, DC.
On June 19, 2015, he married his love, Linda Fuller and moved to Washington, DC.
John D was a member of New Hope Person Baptist Church in Timberlake, NC. He attended Person County Schools. By trade, he was a painter. He also previously owned and operated his company called HiFi (He Will Hire You and Fire You) in Washington DC. For a time, he also worked at Louisiana Pacific. John D’s passion was his love for animals. He was a whisperer to many animals: horses, dogs, parrots, ferrets, you name it, he could train it. John D enjoyed watching Westerns and considered himself to be a cowboy. He loved singing, dancing and entertaining. He was also an artist, comedian, and saxophone musician. Sunshine had a very large heart. He never met a stranger and loved people, especially his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bennie L. Burton, brothers, Joseph and Alvin Allen, brother-in-law, Willie J. Johnson, grandparents, Rosa and Bunnie Clayton, Leaman and Fannie Allen and nephews, Cedric Farrish and Nicholas Parker.
He leaves to cherish his beautiful memories, his wife, Linda Allen of Washington, DC; one son, Johnny D. Allen of Lillington, NC; and a bonus daughter, Choice Goodwin (Mike) of Maryland. One brother, Jeremiah Allen, and four sisters, Charlesina Winstead, (William), Christine Johnson, Yourlinda Farrish and Darlene Yancey (Derrick) all of Roxboro, NC. Aunts and Uncles, Vernon Clayton (Sonny), Leaman Allen, Jr. (Linda Faye), Luanda Allen, and Ernestine Richmond. He also leaves brothers-in-law, Earl Fuller, James Fuller, James Winstead (Barbara) and Jerry Winstead. Sisters-in law, Elaine Chavis, Cheryl Chavis, Sondra Bullock, Dorothy Howard (Cedric), Margaret Winstead, and Rosa Hinton. Four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
Public Viewing and Visitation will be held at Alan L. Lawson Mortuary 209 Chub Lake St. Roxboro, NC on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 1:00 – 7:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00pm
The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 12pm at New Hope Person Baptist Church, 1261 Tom Oakley Rd, Timberlake, NC 27583. Visitation will also be held at the church from 11am – 12pm. Rev. Dwight Wilkerson, Pastor of the Dan River Bethel Baptist Church will be providing the eulogy.
