Joe Louis Green

Mr. Joe Louis Green was born on November 28, 1935, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Manson Green, in Person County, NC. Joe passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Joe grew up in Roxboro, NC. He attended Person County High School, where he excelled in playing baseball and football. Joe was also a talented singer and a member of the local church choir. Joe later married the love of his life, Barbara, relocated to Nyack, NY and started a family, welcoming two children (Joy and Larue). Joe and his family eventually moved back home to NC, settling in Greensboro, and growing by one more, with the birth of their third child, Vaughn. Joe worked tirelessly at UPS, from where he eventually retired after 35 years. Joe never lost his love for singing and he was a faithful choir member at United Institutional Baptist Church. Joe and Barbara traveled the world, and they both enjoyed helping to raise both grand and great-grandchildren.

Joe will now reunite with his parents, Mr. Manson Green and Mrs. Odella Williams Green; his sister, Addie Mae Stephens, and his six brothers: Massielonia, Donald, Ulysseus, Bernard, Lee Romie and Eugene Kittrell Green in eternal peace and rest.

Joe leaves behind to carry on his memory: his loving wife of 69 years, Mrs. Barbara Ann Farrish Green; a daughter, Joy Green Thompson (William); his two sons, Vaughn and Larue (LaJaunya); two granddaughters: Alexis Nicole Green and Joy Victoria Thompson; a grandson, Nicholas Green; his great granddaughter, Aria Nicole Moore and two brothers, Bryce (Gwendolyn) and Herman Green.

As Joe has said many times “I have lived a good life, done everything I wanted to do and traveled everywhere I wanted to go. I am now a man of leisure.” As the Lord leads Joe into the next phase of his spiritual life, he leaves behind many friends, family, nieces, nephews and loved ones to remember the good times shared.
