Jannie (Mitchell) Lipscomb

Ms. Jannie B. Mitchell Lipscomb, age seventy-seven, departed this life and entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Roxboro, NC. She was born in Person County on March 22, 1947, to the late Charlie C. Mitchell and Carrie Pulliam Mitchell. Jannie was a member of Mill Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

A proud 1965 graduate of Person County High School, Jannie furthered her education at Piedmont Community College, where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education. Throughout her life, she held numerous jobs, ultimately retiring after 30 years of service at the Murdoch Center in Butner, NC. Jannie was a woman of strong faith, a cancer survivor, a great teacher, and someone who showed love and compassion to all. She was a devoted and strong mother to her three children, as well as a devoted and loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and service will live on forever.

In addition to her parents, Jannie was preceded in death by her sisters, Bertha M. Price, Alice M. Davis, Carolyn Mitchell, and Barbara E. Mitchell, and brothers, Louteneal Mitchell and Charles V. Mitchell.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Major Lipscomb, Jr. of Henderson, NC, Christopher Lipscomb, Sr. (Akeshia) of Creedmoor, NC, and Tori M. Lipscomb of Timberlake, NC; her sisters, Lorine M. Churchman of Leesport, Pennsylvania, Bessie Goodson (Nathaniel, Jr.) of Timberlake, NC, Georgette Mitchell of Roxboro, NC, and Sherra M. Blackwell of Wake County, NC; and one brother, Clifton Mitchell of Durham, NC. She is also survived by two aunts, Jennie Billups of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Nannie Pulliam of Roxboro, NC; her cherished grandchildren, Deondre Lester of Charleston, SC, Nyia Lipscomb of Roxboro, NC, Tiandra Lipscomb of South Boston, VA, Tamia Lipscomb of Charlotte, NC, Christopher Lipscomb, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC, Gabriel Lipscomb of Durham, NC, and Marley Lipscomb of Henderson, NC. Her precious great-grandchildren, Dakota Ivy and Kameron Hendricks of Roxboro, NC, along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Jannie was also dearly loved by her bonus family, the children and descendants of the late Walter and Foriseteen McGhee.

Public viewing will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel, 209 Chub Lake Street, Roxboro, NC, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mill Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1635 Mill Hill Road, Roxboro, NC 27574, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
