A Life of Love, Service, and Devotion
Jacqueline Marguerite Green Booker was summoned by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends in her home. A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Jacqueline was born on March 19, 1944, to Joseph Nathan Green, Sr. and Mary Hurd Green, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her two beloved brothers, Thomas Green, Sr., and Joseph Nathan Green, Jr.
Jacqueline, affectionately known as Jackie, was a woman of intelligence, faith, and boundless compassion. She graduated from I.C. Norcom High School in 1962 before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Virginia State College (now University). Her passion for education led her to obtain both a Master of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in School Administration & Supervision. She dedicated approximately 36 years of her life to teaching mathematics in the Person County School System, where she shaped countless young minds with her wisdom and patience. Many today still recall being in here class and the impact that she had on their educational pathway.
From an early age, Jackie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. At just 11 years old, she began teaching Sunday School and never missed a single Sunday for nearly seven years. At age 12, she was baptized at Mt. Hermon Baptist Temple by Rev. O.C. Jones, where she was an active member—ushering, singing in the junior choir, and helping to organize BTU activities. Later, she became a devoted member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Roxboro, NC, where she continued her faithful in-person service as a choir member, among other roles, until the COVID-19 pandemic.
During her time at Virginia State College, Jackie became a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., initiated into the Alpha Eta Chapter in the fall of 1963. Upon moving to Roxboro, she played a pivotal role in chartering the Roxboro Area Alumnae Chapter of DST. As a Charter Member and Past President, she held numerous offices and, at the time of her passing, was serving as Historian.
Her dedication to community service extended beyond her sorority. She was a committed member of Fidelity Chapter #576, Order of the Eastern Star, and an active leader in the Entre Nous Club, where she helped coordinate “Little People in Revue,” a program uplifting and engaging children in the community. She remained the club's president until her passing.
Jackie was also very much involved in the Board of Elections for Person County, serving as the Chair for many years. Her service continued until her health began to decline.
Above all, Jackie adored her family. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother (aka “Nana”), treasuring the summers she spent with her four beloved grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds, and she delighted in creating lasting memories with them.
Jackie’s artistic talents shone brightly, but she took the most pride in her oil/acrylic painting, especially her masterpiece, The Black Lord’s Supper, which was copyrighted in 1998 and proudly displayed at Cornerstone Community Church. She also found immense joy in organizing the Ferguson-Green Family Reunions, a tradition she lovingly coordinated since 1986.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and service, cherished by those who survive her: her devoted daughter, Makeba Marguerite Booker Felton, of the home in Rolesville, NC; her loving son, Reginald Bernard Booker, Jr., his wife Dianne Booker of Fayetteville, GA; her treasured grandchildren, Mayah Booker of Atlanta, GA, Brandon Felton of Wilmington, NC, Reginald Booker III of Auburn, AL, and Kendall Felton of Rolesville, NC; her step-sister, Linda Stinger of Las Vegas, NV; her caring nephews, Thomas C. Green, Jr. of Tupelo, MS, and Lawrence M. Green of Portsmouth, VA; her dear sister-in-law, Sylvia W. Green of Portsmouth, VA; and a host of extended family, sorority sisters, church family, former students, her “Girls” and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Jackie’s light will continue to shine through the many lives she touched. While she will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, education, and love will live on eternally.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter at 7413 Pomona Avenue, Rolesville NC 27571.
