Iris Dean Villines

On Thursday, January 19, 2023, while surrounded by her son Darrick and grandson Little Darrick, Iris Dean Villines closed her eyes for the last time. Her spirit left a body that could no longer sustain her and now it could rest for eternity.

Iris was born March 16, 1948, to the late Ivie Hayward Villines and Odell Fuller Villines of Hurdle Mills, NC. She attended Oak Lane Elementary School and Person County High School, where she graduated with the class of 1966.

Iris was very talented and excelled in whatever she set her mind to such as cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, interior decorating, arts, crafts, and fashion. She was very active in church no matter the city she lived in, donating her time to several ministries and community outreach. She loved God, and supported and encouraged the people in her life whether family, friends, coworkers or church members.

She was employed by North Carolina Central University from the mid-1970’s until 1982, then she moved to Cerritos, California. In Long Beach, California, she worked for Xerox until 1998. In 1999, she began working at Kaiser Permanente in Pasadena, California as a medical biller until her retirement in 2017.

In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by a sister and a brother, Ronald Villines, Sr.

She leaves to hold dear her memory three sons:  Sandy B. Poole, Darrick Poole and Kermit Poole; a daughter, Alexandria Jones and a brother, Larry Villines (Annie). Twelve grandchildren:  Porsche Poole, Samira Poole, Darrick Miranda, Jasmin Poole, Tia Poole, Tre Brooks, Noah Poole, Caprii Poole, Tiara Williams, Tevin Williams, Kermit Poole, Jr. and Kaylhon Poole and three nephews:  Maurice Villines, Ronald Villines, Jr. and Eric Villines, as well as, other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Union Grove Baptist Church 3081 Union Grove Church Rd. Hurdle Mills, NC 27541.  Pastor Rev. Rufus L. Johnson, Sr., Eulogist.  Following the Funeral Service the final resting place is Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
