Mr. Ira Lee Bailey, a native of Roxboro, NC transitioned from his earthly life on Wednesday evening, May 24, 2023, at his home. He was affectionally called “Uncle Bunny” by some.
Ira was born June 20, 1933, to the union of the late Sophie Brown Bailey and Armistead Bailey.
During his years of employment, Ira worked for Burlington Industries and later for the City of Roxboro. He enjoyed hot, sunny weather, being outdoors, and gardening growing fruits and vegetables.
He was married to Barbara Ann Gregg Bailey; to this union, four children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, daughter, Karen B. Dixon and siblings: John Henry, James Moses, Oscar “Doc”, Anna and Martha.
He leaves to cherish his memory three children: Donna Bailey Melvin, Corey V. Bailey, and Patricia Bailey Winbush all of Roxboro; five grandchildren, Christen Winbush, Cedricka Winbush, Corey L. Bailey, Anthony Winbush (Taylor) and Corey V. Bailey, Jr.; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, William A. Bailey; sister/niece, Minnie Mae Bailey; sisters-in-law, Mae Hollingsworth and Beverly Johnson and brothers-in-law, George Phillip Gregg and Clifton Emery Gregg. Also, a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friend.
Public viewing will be held Sunday, May 28th, 2023 at Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The family will be present from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 29th, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Elijah Grove Baptist Church, 11469 Virgilina Road. Roxboro, North Carolina 27574. Eulogist for the service is Pastor Reverend Dr. Alfred M. Faulkner. Mr. Bailey will lie in repose one hour prior to service. Interment Elijah Grove Baptist Church, Cemetery.
