Evelean L. Lawson

Ms. Evelean Lee Lawson, age 76, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at her residence in Durham, NC. She was born on April 11, 1949, to the late Sam Thomas Lee and Cora Macon Lee.

She was a 1969 graduate of McIver High School. She continued her education at Greenville Community College for one year before transferring to Durham Technical Community College, where she earned an Associate Degree in Business.  Evelean worked at WTVD and appeared on The Peggy Mann Show alongside members of the Roxboro Chapter of the Future Homemakers of America, modeling garments that they had made in the 1960’s. She later joined Blue Cross, from which she retired after 25 years of service. She also worked as a teacher at Bryson Christian Montessori School and Greystone Church for approximately six years.

On September 30, 1972, Evelean and Raber J. Lawson were united in marriage at the Lawson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. From this union one daughter was born, Kimberly Evette Lawson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter; four grandchildren, Christian Lawson, Khalil Wade, Lidiya Lawson-Wade, and Ayanna Wade; her siblings, Maeome Bullard, Channie Zollicoffer, Corine Hawkins (Loyd), Zeno Lee (Shirley) and Noah B. Lee, as well as, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Obadiah Lee, Jeremiah Lee, Thelmaih Lee, Josphine Alston, and Ethel Mae Walker.

Evelean Lee Lawson was a sweet daughter, a loyal sister, a devoted/divine mother, and an extraordinary Nana. She gave unwavering love and support to her family and friends. Evelean was one of a kind and a sacred blessing to all who knew and came in contact with her. Her distinct nature and qualities were admired by all. She leaves behind joy, love, and wisdom. Obstacles that Evelean endured gave inspiration to all who knew her.

Public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 1:00 – 6:00pm at Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel, 209 Chub Lake St., Roxboro, NC 27573.

Family visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 12:30 pm  to 1:00pm  at Lawson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 200 Lawson Chapel Church Road, Roxboro, NC 27573. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. The eulogy will be delivered by Pastor Anthony Zollicoffer of Next Level Christian Church, Greensboro, North Carolina. Burial will follow in the Lawson Chapel Church Cemetery.
