Craig Ellis Obituary

Mr. Craig Curtis Ellis departed this earthly life on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. He was born on October 29, 1973, in Granville County, NC, to the late Galveston Ellis and Lena Crisp Ellis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley “Button” Ellis.

Craig grew up on a farm with his family, where he enjoyed the simple pleasures of country life. He attended Granville County Public Schools and had a love for go-carts, collectible cars, and fishing. Craig loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews, whom he affectionately referred to as "the Boys."

His favorite meal was a cheeseburger with a Mt. Dew, and whenever someone called to ask if he needed anything, his answer was always the same: a Mt. Dew and a cheeseburger. He cherished spending time with his friends, particularly the Henderson Boys, and maintained a special bond with his extended family. He especially enjoyed visiting Hillsborough to spend time with his cousins from his mother’s side.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his sisters, Vickie Young of Roxboro, NC, and Darlene Ellis of Oxford, NC, and one brother, Carl Ellis of Bullock, NC. He is also survived by his great-aunt, Vearl Ellis of Oxford, NC; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Jones (Kenneth) of Oxford, NC, Christopher Ellis (Tanika) of Red Bank, VA, George Young Jr. (Sheena), Charles Ellis (Mary), and Veronica Young, all of Milton, NC; Samantha Williams, Valerie Ellis, and Jamal Ellis, all of Oxford, NC.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the late Ester Kearney, Craig's case manager at the Sickle Cell Clinic at Duke Hospital for over 25 years. Her unwavering dedication ensured Craig always received the care he needed.
