Barbara Gupton Lawson, 94 of Roxboro, NC, born to the union of the late John H. Gupton and Mary Y. Gupton in Clarksville, Virginia made her passage to her heavenly home on Monday, August 14, 2023 at her residence.
Barbara was born and raised in Clarksville, Virginia and started her spiritual journey as a member of Wharton Memorial Baptist Church. Nelson, Buffaloe Junction and Clarksville, Va. were the areas where her values and life principles were formed. Later she moved to Roxboro and joined Vernon Hill Baptist Church for a number of years, where she served as church secretary and sang in the Church Choir until she moved her membership to the Lawson Chapel Baptist Church. At Lawson Chapel, she served on the Usher Board, Culinary Department and sang in the Lawson Church Choir for many years.
Barbara was blessed with a green thumb. She grew beautiful flowers and a healthy crop of vegetables. She enjoyed canning, freezing and making jelly for the community, her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie and son, David and fourteen siblings: Farris, Wayne, Clarence, Cleveland, Norman, Lawrence, Celestine, Mozelle, Willie Mae, Viola, Ossie, Libby, Sadie and Evelyn.
She is survived by her four sons: Marshall (Dale), Austin Que (Elaine), Alan and Dennis. Three grandchildren: Marty (Karen), Aisha and Loran (Christopher). Six great- grandchildren; one great, great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A public viewing will held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 11am until 3pm at the Alan Lawson Mortuary Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 3:00 pm with the Reverend Dr. Dorwin Howard, Pastor of First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church of Raleigh, NC providing the eulogy at Alan Lawson Mortuary Chapel. The final resting place will be at Vernon Hill Baptist Church beside her husband, Johnnie L. Lawson.
