Alvin Wright Allen

Mr. Alvin Wright Allen, the son of the late Pearl Allen Burton and Wright Allen, was born on March 1, 1962, in Durham, NC. He was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

Alvin was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Timberlake, NC. He attended Person County Schools. By trade, Alvin was a carpenter and also worked for the NC Department of Transportation. When it came to sports he loved his Dallas Cowboys and was a fan all day every day of the North Carolina Tarheels Basketball teams.

He was formerly married to Maria Potts and to this union a baby girl, Briana was born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bennie L. Burton, a brother, Joseph Allen, brother-in-law, Willie J. Johnson, grandparents, Rosa and Bunnie Clayton,  Leamon and Fannie Allen and nephews, Cedric Farrish and Nicholas Parker.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Briana Allen Herring (Louis, Jr.); grandsons, Louis Herring, III and Carter Herring all of Wilmington, NC. Four sisters, Charlesina Winstead (William), Christine Johnson, Yourlinda Farrish, and Darlene Yancey (Derrick) all of Roxboro, NC. Two brothers, John D. Allen (Linda) of Washington, DC and Jeremiah Allen of Roxboro, NC.  Aunts and Uncles, Ernestine Richmond, Luada Allen, Vernon Clayton (Sonny), and Leaman Allen, Jr. (Faye) all of Roxboro, NC. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and special friends, Vanessa Moore, Thaddeus Jamison, Winston Nelson and Roger Thomas.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel. The family will be present from 5 -6 pm.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 1:00pm. The body will lie in state on hour prior to service with the family present at the Alan L. Lawson Mortuary Chapel, 209 Chub Lake St. Roxboro, NC 27573. Rev. Brud Perry, Pastor of Jones Chapel Baptist Church, Danville VA, Eulogist and Pastor Linda Allen, Shockoe Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Timberlake, NC, officiating. Final resting place is Person Memorial Cemetery, Roxboro, NC.
